At the end of the joint international dual-degree undergraduate program between ITU Faculty of Maritime and SUNY Maritime College, graduates are awarded both the Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering degree (ITU) and the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree (SUNY).

Graduates take the Ocean-Going Captain license examinations at the Turkish Seafarers Examination Center (GASM). Those who successfully pass the Seafarer Competency Examination conducted by the Turkish Maritime Authority are granted the “Ocean-Going Deck Officer” Certificate of Competency. With this certificate, graduates can work as Second Officers on commercial vessels.

Ocean-Going Deck Officers may, after a certain period of sea service, upgrade their qualifications to First Officer and subsequently to Ocean-Going Captain.

Graduates may take on positions in maritime companies such as general manager, operations manager, technical manager, deck inspector, and personnel inspector. They may also serve as pilot captains in the Bosphorus region and Turkish ports after gaining maritime experience.
