Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there any scholarship opportunities available in the Dual Diploma Programs?

A:

Dual Diploma Programs are special programs established under the approval of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and are subject to tuition fees. In the departments of Management, Marine Engineering Operations, and Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering, there are 50% ÖSYM scholarship quotas available. In some of our other programs, academic merit scholarships may also be offered as tuition discounts, with rates varying from year to year.

In addition, students enrolled in the Bioengineering Dual Diploma Program conducted jointly with Montana State University may receive a tuition discount of USD 4,000 for their studies in Montana, provided that they achieve a GPA of 2.50/4.00 or above by the end of their studies at ITU.

For the Industrial Engineering Program conducted jointly with SUNY Binghamton University, which started admitting students in the 2021–2022 Academic Year, one student with the highest placement score receives a 50% scholarship covering tuition fees both at ITU and in the United States. This scholarship does not cover Preparatory Year tuition fees or living expenses (such as accommodation and meals) and is valid for four years.

Scholarship opportunities are also available in the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Program conducted jointly with the University of Strathclyde, which started admitting students in the 2021–2022 Academic Year.

Students who successfully complete their first and second years at ITU are entitled to a 15% tuition scholarship for their third and fourth years. Students who achieve a GPA of 3.5/4.0 or higher by the end of their second year at ITU are additionally eligible for a GBP 1,000 tuition scholarship during their first year at Strathclyde (Year 3). Furthermore, students who achieve a weighted average of 70% or above during their first year at Strathclyde (Year 3) will also qualify for an additional GBP 1,000 tuition scholarship.

Undergraduate students enrolled in the Dual Diploma Program who wish to pursue an MSc degree at the Faculty of Engineering at Strathclyde University are entitled to a 15% tuition discount for the MSc program and will receive a Strathclyde MSc degree upon completion.

Students also have the option to participate in the English Language Program (4-week Module 3 program) before starting their third year at Strathclyde. Depending on the student’s performance, this program may be offered free of charge.

For the Management Program conducted jointly with SUNY New Paltz University, which started admitting students in the 2003–2004 Academic Year, merit scholarships are awarded to students up to 10% of the program quota (one student per academic year). Students with a minimum GPA of 3.6/4.0 may apply for the scholarship during their studies, and the top four students are awarded scholarships based on ranking. The scholarship is valid only for the academic year in which it is granted and provides a 50% reduction in tuition fees both at ITU and in the United States. This scholarship does not cover Preparatory Year tuition fees or living expenses (such as accommodation and meals).

Q: Are the diplomas awarded in Dual Diploma Programs equivalent to those awarded in regular degree programs?

A: Upon graduation from a Dual Diploma Program, students receive two separate bachelor’s diplomas: one from ITU and one from the partner university, both indicating that the degree was completed under the Dual Diploma Program framework. These diplomas are internationally recognized and valid worldwide.
